THE BORDER WALL… FROM TRADING TO SUBMISSION
BI-WEEKLY COLUMN By Sergio Granillo Globalization is in decadence or in crisis at least. On one hand, free exchange of merchandises is promoted, but people are restricted to move across the borders. On the other hand, globalization was meant to bring economic development to all the nations involved, but it has only polarized global economy, amplifying the gap between poor countries and the rich ones. The United States is particularly interested in opening new markets abroad for the American companies, and they have promoted the idea that a free market is the foundation of democracy. On January 1st, 1994, the federal governments of Canada, Mexico and the United States signed the North America Free Trade Agreement, in order to face the recently created European Union. The objective was to create the largest free market region in the world, encouraging a strong and sustainable economic growth in the three nations by opening frontiers.
